Check out this blog for all kinds of advice on improving your ability to play outside with the people that you love. You never know, improving your kickball game might also help you to live a longer, healthier life.

Concealed Carry Purchase: Tips For Shopping

Recreation & Sports Blog

If you are in the market for your first concealed carry weapon, you're probably ready to visit your local gun shop. However, before you make that trip, it's important to understand that buying a gun you will carry concealed on your person requires a completely different approach than buying one for home protection or target practice. Here are some things you need to consider.

Size Really Matters

While you may be able to make some concessions on size with a target practice or home protection weapon, you shouldn't do that with one you plan to carry.  Don't assume that just because the gun fits your hands well, it's a good choice. Instead, look for something properly sized to actually be concealed wherever you intend to carry it. Remember that the entire profile of the gun is a factor in your ability to keep it concealed.

Weight Is Important Too

When you are evaluating options for concealed carry, the next thing to think about is weight don't just assess the weight of the gun itself, either. Remember that the gun's weight will change when it's loaded, so take that into consideration. Choose a gun that's light enough for you to be comfortable with it. If it's an obstruction or uncomfortable, it's the wrong one.

Caliber Matters

The caliber of your concealed weapon will matter too. Caliber directly affects size and weight, and it can also affect your ability to sort accurately. Make sure you balance your choice by selecting a caliber large enough to contribute stopping power, but not so large that it creates an uncomfortable gun.  You might even find that choosing a gun that supports single-stacking ammunition is easier.

Handling And Accuracy Should Be The Final Element

Choosing a weapon for concealed carry is great, but it won't do you any good if it's hard for you to hold or fire. Make sure that you practice with any gun you're considering to be sure that it's large enough to hold without fumbling with it. Remember that, in any situation where you must pull your concealed weapon, seconds count. Choose a model you can comfortably handle and accurately fire, even if it means test-firing before you buy just to be sure.

These are some of the most important factors when you're bugging a handgun you plan to conceal. Talk with your local gun shop's staff today to see what options they might have. Keep these points in mind as you make your selection.
